2013 - Eric Michel : Derrière le visible

L’artiste nous invite à un parcours, depuis l’extérieur du couvent jusqu’aux profondeurs des cryptes, dans lequel la lumière souligne les lignes de force de l’architecture et magnifie celle-ci. L’œil est tour à tour sollicité par les œuvres que l’on découvre soit de façon directe, soit par transparence à travers les parois vitrées, soit par reflet sur les pans de verre ondulatoires donnant l’impression que les lignes lumineuses flottent à l’extérieur.
The artist invites us to a journey, from the exterior of the convent to the depths of the crypts, in which light underlines the lines of force of the architecture and magnifies it. The eye is in turn solicited by the works that we discover either in a direct way, or by transparency through the glass walls, or by reflection on the undulating glass panels giving the impression that the luminous lines float outside.

Éric Michel, artiste invité en 2013 au couvent de La Tourette, mène une recherche sur la lumière qui entre en résonance avec celle de Le Corbusier pour qui cette lumière, à l’instar du béton, est un matériau. Cette rencontre entre l’architecture du lieu et Éric Michel, passeur de lumière, à travers ses installations lumineuses et oeuvres en néon créées spécialement pour le couvent, nous convie à un parcours qui interroge notre rapport au réel, jouant sur la frontière du matériel et de l’immatériel.
Franck Christen, invité en résidence parallèlement au travail d’Éric Michel, livre ici des photos tout en retenue et sensibilité qui évoquent – au-delà même de la vie des frères – toute la complexité d’un travail sur l’image face à un tel bâtiment.

Éric Michel, artist invited in 2013 to the convent of La Tourette, conducts a research on light that resonates with that of Le Corbusier for whom this light, like concrete, is a material. This meeting between the architecture of the place and Eric Michel, light passer, through his light installations and neon works created especially for the convent, invites us to a journey that questions our relationship to reality, playing on the border of the material and the immaterial.
Franck Christen, invited in residence at the same time as Éric Michel's work, delivers here photographs all in restraint and sensitivity which evoke - beyond the life of the brothers - all the complexity of a work on the image facing such a building.
